While I am a bit of a sucker for Rococo architecture, I just can't get into that style of painting. To me, it is the QVC channel of art history, boasting about material happiness yet completely ignoring value. I do like some of Tiepolo's work and even some of Boucher's, but the movement as a whole gives me sort of a sickly sweet feel.

"sickly sweet feel" is a good way of describing the Rococo; Diderot was particularly repulsed by the obsession with the putti naked bums 🙂
